Milestones are a range, not a date
«At 6 months» means around 6. Two healthy babies can be weeks apart on the same milestone, and both be doing fine.
At 2 months
- Social smile.
- Soft sounds.
- Holds their head up briefly.
- Follows objects with their eyes.
At 6 months
- Rolls over.
- Sits with support.
- Passes objects from one hand to the other.
- Recognises familiar faces and responds to their name.
- Puts everything in their mouth.
At 12 months
- Cruises along furniture, and takes first steps.
- Pincer grip: picks up small things between finger and thumb.
- Waves goodbye and claps.
- One or two words with meaning.
- Imitates simple actions.
If they were born prematurely, the age that counts is the corrected one: an 8-month-old born at 32 weeks is compared with a 6-month-old.
A late milestone is not a diagnosis
What's looked at is the whole picture, and that development keeps moving forward. A baby can be late on one and early on another.
What is worth raising with the paediatrician without waiting for the next check-up: development that stops, or losing something they already did.
In NomiNest this isn't a table, it's your baby
The app works from the data you already log, and compares your baby against themselves rather than against an average.
Meet NomiNestSources. Milestones based on the World Health Organization's development standards. NomiNest does not assess development.
NomiNest is not a medical device and this guide does not replace your paediatrician's guidance. The information is general and orientative: every baby is different, and the professional who sees yours is the one who knows them.
